Feedback + What I Have to Work With

Talked to the tutors - Emphasis on making the spatial design site specific - need to look into local myths etc.
Can use the whole bay - more than just the single boat-shed, which is fantastic for me
Discussed LIGHTING - Used to create atmosphere and 'magic'
Will brainstorm ideas in plan and sectional views

Downloaded pre-made 3D model of boat-sheds to work with, split into individual and took a number of screen-caps to work with - possible painting over them in photoshop to retain proportions:

What I'm passionate about + Fantastical Creatures Of The Deep

One of my great passions is creating worlds, and other flights of the imagination. Stories, characters, fictional history, I love it all, especially when it's plausible and properly fits together. I am hoping to gain work as a concept artist in the video-game industry further down the track, and am already working on a number of personal projects and community built games. Naturally, I am wanting to twist this assignment to my passions, which means sliding in a story of sorts, perhaps about a mythological sea creature in an old sailors tale, or a place soaked in old powers, far older than the boat-sheds that were built upon it.

A few relevant examples of creature design, some of my 3D modelling, and sketchy feature drawing:

Night Trip

In the first week, I went down to the boat-sheds in the evening, and discovered a completely different atmosphere. Unfortunately my phone died before I could film any video, but I managed to capture a few photos and record some audio, which intrigued me especially. It was a particularly blustery and cold night, which I thought could work very well with my ideas.

Reference

I saw this at a local art exhibition at the TSB Arena. It's a fantastic reference for the boat-sheds, and the water in particular is very nicely captured.

Boat-Sheds (The first look)

The space we will be utilizing for this project will be the boat-sheds at oriental bay and the surrounding area. A small harbour surrounded by walls provides a temporary home for a number of sail-boats directly outside the boat-sheds.
The sheds themselves are quite old and a little weather beaten, out of the public path.

Meeting

The focus of this Term is Atea - 'Meeting'
We have been tasked to create a space that reflects some aspect of Atea - a place that facilitates meeting or represents  the meeting of more abstract concepts. Firstly, we split off into groups in which to discuss meeting and its many types and circumstances.
Later, I narrowed it down to a number that I was particularly interested in and could pursue. My passion is the creation of alternate realms and illustration (concept art) so the meeting of reality and fantasy, or two universes, seemed like a no-brainer to me. Regardless of what I end up doing, I am wanting to create a space installation that is atmospheric and creates 'magic', inspiring imagination and speculation.

First Week Warm-Ups / Initial Sketches

Space kicked off with a couple of drawing exercised to get warmed up.
Sketch 1: Drawing scenery as the class walks to the Boat-sheds.
Sketch 2: The Block 12 steps (speed draw)
Sketch 3: "Draw some lines"
Sketch 4: Attempting to capture people as we walk past.
